PORT STEPHENS – Michael Palmer and Verity Farragher have reigned supreme in the Half Marathon, while a teenager and a 59 year-old stole the show in the 6km event of Trail Run Australia’s opening round at Port Stephens.
This weekend’s launch of a brand new National Series, saw a record sell-out field of 320 competitors.
Palmer won the 21km race in commanding fashion, finishing in a time of 01:37:32, which was 3 minutes and 6 seconds ahead of second-placed Rob Wildig.
Trevor Fulton rounded out the podium, in a time of 01:42:21.
Verity Farragher won the Female title by just shy of two minutes, ahead of Jennifer Hynes, and then Demi Greentree.
Farragher finished the Fingal Bay-Tomaree National Park course in a time of 01:54:04.
Meanwhile, 16 year-old Zac Roberts shone brightly in the 6km event, taking victory in a time of 28:37:19.
59 year-old Neil Parfitt came home second in 30:58:44.
Parfitt said he was very happy with how his body held up, having had his hip replaced.
Samantha Cole, competing in the 16-29 age division, won the Female event in a time of 38:09:57.
And young gun competitor Lola Dahle, won her category of girls 10-11, and stunningly captured 2nd place overall.
The 11km event was won by James Alexander in 51:31:37 and Sally Jeffrey in 01:09:53.
